Trees surround Céline Dion’s home in an upper middle-class neighborhood. She sits on a chair in her bedroom and stares into her mirror. Her maid smiles as she walks down the winding staircase. She leans against the wall.
In her room, a man’s hand brushes against her cheek. She closes her eyes and tilts her head. With her coat wrapped around her, she walks in her front yard, touching the columns. Wearing a yellow dress, she sits on a chair as the sun shines through the curtain.
In a white sleeveless dress, she stands in a room full of several mirrors. Her boyfriend turns to face her.
In her family room, she watches as she and her boyfriend play a hand game by the fireplace. As she leans against the wall, he holds up a mirror to her face and gives it to her.
She sings against a black background, her face close to the camera.
In the yellow dress, she leans against the window. Her boyfriend touches her shoulder. She closes her eyes and turns her head as he massages her shoulders.
Nearing 35 years old, Céline Dion believed she would be single for the rest of her life. While her friends got married, she traveled to Europe and a brief fling with a Greek man. After buying gifts for baby showers, she spoke at conferences in New York while her friends gave up their careers.
She was 26 when her last serious relationship ended. She thought she would be among her friends, discussing color schemes and trading notes on photographers. However, it wasn’t meant to be. Her stately home was lonely and other than her maid and dog, she didn’t have anyone to share her experiences.
A man approached her at a speaking engagement, telling her how her speech inspired him. She let him buy her a drink and they talked all night. He was widowed and had one child. His start-up business was finally taking off and he wanted to work at home and be with his child.
They dated for a year and on their anniversary, he asked her to marry him. She said yes.
