Video Review: Jessie J “Not My Ex”

In black-and-white, Jessie J sits to the right and adjusts the camera. She nods her head and grins. After fixing the bottom of her sweater, she puts her hand near her shoulder and begins to sing.

She plays with her collar and puts a finger to her lip and then folds them together, entwining them. Giving the camera a knowing look, she rubs her shoulders. She closes her eyes and puts one of her hands on her head and faces forward. She shrugs and points at the camera. Rocking in her chair, she puts both hands on her head, crossing her arms. She puts her head down and puts both hands on her face.

Facing forward, she shakes her head and sighs. She brushes her hair out of her face and puts her hands over her head. With both palms out, she points to the camera and swivels in her chair.

While sitting to the right, she shakes her hair. She faces forward again and pushes a strand of hair back. Both hands are near her shoulders and she rubs them again. She smiles and closes her eyes. Putting both hands on top of her head, she grins. She sighs and turns the camera off.

Rating: 4/5

History has become the elephant in the room in  Jessie J’s new relationship. While eating dinner with him, he often makes comments that he learned how to cook from his ex-girlfriend. He reminisced about their kitchen disasters and she nodded. Apparently, she runs her own company now, selling homemade sauces. Somehow, in his eyes, she believes she won’t ever measure up.

However, she thinks of her ex-boyfriend from time to time. For seven years they were together and almost got married. She wonders what their lives would be like now. Would she be a mother? Would they have gotten a divorce already?

It’s been weighing on her mind and she needs to tell him. But explaining it to him face-to-face intimidates her. What if he takes it the wrong way? She decides to video tape and have him watch it. They can discuss it later.

In the back of her mind, she realizes the video tape is a band-aid. It may get the issue out in the open but it could be catalyst to end their relationship. She still wants to be with him. However, neither have given each other a fair chance, either. Maybe the video tape will the beginning of a fresh start for them.
