In a remake of Clueless, Cher (Iggy Azalea) sits at her computer, matching the outfits in her walk-in closet on the computer. She decides a canary yellow plaid blouse and skirt set. In debate class, she gives a presentation. Her classmates toss paper planes while she talks. Amber scrunches her face at Cher’s improbable reasoning. Mr. Hall raises his eyebrow. Cher flips her hair over her shoulder several times.
At lunch, Cher gives Tai (Charli XCX) a playful shove in the shoulder. Dionne and Murray nod their heads and smile. The cheerleaders practice their routine, wearing black “Fancy” crop tops and shorts. Tai, Cher, and Dionne talk and dance while waiting in line during gym class.
Dionne freaks out as she enters the expressway. Murray, Cher, and Dionne all scream as the semi-truck honks at them. Tai and Cher attend the party in the Valley. They dance with their classmates at the pool table.
Tai plays with her pigtails in the hallway. Cher calls Dionne on her cell phone as she walks to her next class. Cher scribbles some notes on with fuzzy pink pen as Christian watches. A female classmate’s books fall out of her locker as she answers her phone. Dionne joins Cher in the hallway. Tai sits behind Cher in debate class.
Dionne exits the expressway and kisses Murray. Cher and Dionne continue to walk to class.
Iggy Azalea as Cher from Clueless? As if! Alicia Silverstone’s Cher was a good-natured popular girl who underestimated herself and took care of her tough father. Despite Dionne’s objections, she took Tai under her wing and welcomed her to the school. She blamed herself for turning Tai into a snob and once Josh pointed out that she lived in a privileged bubble, she became a socially aware person.
Tai and Cher are close, gossiping to one another during lunch and in classes, excluding Dionne and Murray. Dionne and Murray listen without much input. They hang out with Cher and Tai, knowing they aren’t seen as equals. Racial tension exists in the modern Beverly Hills, California.
Iggy Azalea’s Cher, though, is a self-important bitch who flaunts her name-brand purse in the hallway, lightly tapping the unpopular’s girl books over and giggling to Dionne as the she scrambles in the hallway. Behind Dionne and Murray’s back, she says racial slurs and comments they reinforce stereotypes of African-Americans on reality shows.
Charli XCX’s confident Tai knows Cher’s slurs are wrong but says nothing. She’s noticed that Dionne and Murray keep their conversations short with her and distance themselves. Speaking up could cause Tai to lose her status at the school and she would like to land a cute boyfriend through Cher’s connections.
