Video Review: James Blunt “Goodbye My Lover”

During the day, a young woman (Mischa Barton) sits on the bed. Leaves float in the lake. Dew glistens on the grass.

At night, James Blunt sits on the edge of the bed.

The young woman kisses a young man (Matt Dallas) in bed. They sit across from one another in bed. She digs her fingers in his chest. He unbuttons her blouse. They sleep together.

The street lamp shines on the pavement in the parking lot. Two statues stand outside a hotel. The ceiling fan runs in the hallway. Balloons hang in an office.

He lies down on the bed.

With tears in her eyes, she lies on the bed.

He plays the piano.

She grips the left side of the bed.

She’s okay, the young woman thinks to herself as she gets dressed, it’ll be okay. The young man was someone from work. He had visited her on the way home from work. Not once did he mention his wife. However, she waits for the phone call from him, saying his marriage is over. It’s all she can hope for at this point. There have been no promises or discussions of a future. She opens the drawer by the night stand and drinks from the flask. It’ll help her sleep.

James Blunt plays the piano and composes songs as he stays up all night. He hasn’t been able to sleep for about two months. His mother calls him every day, asking if he’s okay. His friends invite him to go the bar. He tells his mom and friends he doesn’t want anyone else. He believes the breakup is temporary. His friends tell him he needs to move on. However, he thinks of calling her between songs. As he dials her phone, he yawns and hangs up the phone. He falls asleep right away and wraps the covers around himself.
