Video Review: Carly Rae Jepsen “Too Much”

As it rains, Carly Rae Jepsen plays music on the keyboard on the floor. The cord lies on the floor and under a rug. A remote control sits on the rug. She picks up the remote and and leans her elbow on the couch. A clone rests her head on her lap. Several clones gather by the couch as they watch television in the dark.

Jepsen gets off the couch. The multiple clones move the lamps. One clone turns the light on inside the studio.They perform a dance. As they raise their arms, glitter falls from their hands.

She sits in a plastic chair in the dark while the other clones move back and forth.

She and the clones gather at a dessert table. They throw cupcakes and pieces of cake at the wall. A 6-year-old clone walks past the wall, carrying a cupcake.

In the dark, she faces one of her clones. The other clones hold up mirrors. Jepsen watches one of her clones recreate the couch set on her desk. She sits on the couch as the clones dance around her.

Carly Rae Jepsen clutches her stomach. She should’ve had that sixth glass of wine. A voice inside her head tells her to lie down. Another voice tells her to get another glass. She pours herself another glass and passes out on the couch. Around noon, she wakes up and runs into the bathroom. She calls into work and binges an entire television show.

Her mother tells her she needs to slow down. She says it’s impossible for her to do so She likes to experience everything all at once. Bits and pieces usually leave her bored. She says she planned a vacation for two months. Her mother asked her where she’s going. She says she’s going to Europe.

Her eyes dart to the cupboard. She gets a couple boxes of cake and brownie mix. She spends a day baking the contents. She takes a few cupcakes in her hand and walks to the television. Glancing over her shoulder, she looks back at the table. One voice tells her to wrap it up and eat it for a meal. Another voice tells her to chuck it all the wall. She walks to the kitchen and throws the baked goods at the cabinets and on floor. She giggles as she slides on the frosting. Throwing the last cupcake at the sink, she leaves multi-colored prints on the floor as she walks to her bedroom.
