Video Review: Kanye West “Follow God”

Kanye West and his father trudge through the snow on his Cody, Wyoming ranch. He walks to his ATV and waits for his father to get inside. West drives on the snow.

With his hands folded in prayer, West dances on the snow. A donkey and llama stare ahead while they stand on the snow.

West drives a second ATV with oversized wheels.

He stands with his father and laughs.

West does figure eights as he drives in the snow.

Standing by himself, he lets out a scream.

Written against a blue background, a message reads: “My dad came to visit me at one of our ranches in Cody, Wyoming. He talked out his love for fishing, and how he would like to come here in the summers. It took me 42 years for me to realize my dad was my best friend. He asked me, “how many acres is this?” I told him 4000. He replied with three words. “A black man?”

Kanye West snaps his fingers and points to the table. The help was taking their good old time setting everything up. He tells them it has to be perfect and it’s an important day. He shakes his head and calls their manager. On the phone, he explains there’s an hour left and they aren’t prepared at all. The manager says she’s in the kitchen but she’ll be right over to let them know.

While he walks with his father on the ranch, he shows them the animals and says his children love them. He says he’s planning to bring one of them on tour with them. West pets the donkey and tells his father it’s okay. His father tells him he’s done good. West says one of the ranches can be just his. His father says that’s all right and asks about his health. West says he went to a checkup a couple of months ago and the doctor told him he was fine. His father mentions how his wife feels about it. West scoffs and says she doesn’t think it’s a big deal. His father assures him there’s nothing wrong with getting help of any kind. His voice rising, West reiterates that he’s fine. His father suggests they have lunch.

At lunch, the help watch as he and his father walk inside. The hostess asks them if they want anything to drink and takes off their jackets. West says some water. His father responds, “coffee.” West says he has such problems with the help today. His father tells him not to be so hard on them. They are working hard. West mutters “not enough” under his breath. His father compliments the server on the food. The server smiles and says she’ll let them know in the kitchen.
