Video Review: Harry Styles “Treat People With Kindness”

In black-and-white, a thirtysomething woman (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) gets up from her chair and puts her hand on a fiftysomething man’s cheek. A “Treat People With Kindness” sign hangs on stage. Harry Styles walks to the microphone and begins to sing. Several twentysomething men and women dance behind him. Styles walks away from the microphone and joins the routine.

The thirtysomething woman walks through a curtain and down the staircase. A second twentysomething woman hands her a menu and she gives it back. She holds a glass of champagne and sips it as she continues to walk down the staircase. Styles jumps on stage and steadies himself on a table. The thirtysomething woman talks with several people. He bounces from table to table. The thirtysomething woman looks up at Styles as he lands on her table. He bends down and offer her his hand.

They take off their jackets by the stage. On stage, they dance together.

The thirtysomething woman sits in her boss’ office and listens to him as he talks with her. He tells her she wasn’t a box on the screen. She asks him if his dog has gotten better. He says his dog is going to the vet for surgery. Biting his lip, he says the dog kept him company through the lockdowns. She stands up and tells him his dog knows how much he loves him. He grabs a tissue and blows his nose.

She waits in line to get into the club. It was one of the several places in town that survived. The host gives her a hug and says it’s so good to see her. The thirtysomething touches the staircase. A twinge of anxiety went through her. However, it was okay now. A twentysomething woman asks her if she remembers her. The thirtysomething woman gives her a hug. The thirtysomething woman says she was wondering about her for the entire year. The twentysomething woman explains she was taking care of her parents. They are both fine. The thirtysomething woman gestures for the server to bring them a drink.

Styles shakes hands with each person at the table. He asks the thirtysomething woman to dance with him. She tells him it would be wonderful. The people begin to dance at their tables. Styles, catching his breath, stands at the microphone and says they made it.
