Filmed in sepia, a thirtysomething man looks out the window of a train. Belinda Carlisle walks on the pier and sits on the bench, watching as the seagulls gather. She dances inside an empty cabin.
She rests her head on his chest as they stand on the porch. They watch as the rain falls. He swings her as they dance on the lawn, their hair and clothes wet from the rain. In color, she sits on the porch as rain drips on the leaves of the tree. Back in sepia, she kisses him on the porch as he walks away. His family waves to him. She leaps into his arms as a band plays.
An airplane sits on the runway. Multiple planes fly in the air. A few people in parachutes prepare to land. Thousands of gravestones line the cemetery. She and the thirtysomething man continue to dance.
Belinda Carlisle puts on a cardigan and closes the screen door. She sits at the kitchen table and reads a book. As she turns a page, the lights flicker as the rain pours. She lifts her head up. It was worse than she expected. She hoped the power wouldn’t go out. Earlier in the day, she had gone to the grocery store.
Her boyfriend walks into the door and places his umbrella by his door. He says he had to make two detours on the way home due to accidents. She tells him about the lights. He says he’ll get the generator just in case. She pats his shoulder and sits on the couch.
Standing at the window, she watches the rain. The moodiness had given away to nostalgia about a decade ago. The thirtysomething man may be alive. However, she had lost touch with his family about two years after he left. She liked to believe he was somewhere, working as an engineer for a car company. It was a long time ago. She pulls the lever on the curtain. She had an early morning.
